An immense milestone and to celebrate in true RuneScape style

On the Squeal of Fortune this weekend, Yelps is offering increased chances to grab Pendants of Skill: new wearable items allowing you to earn up to a 3x XP boost for a specific skill. They come in two fetching varieties: Pendants of Skill and the even juicier Prized Pendants of Skill. Pendants of Skill double the XP earned in their associated skill, up to an amount of bonus XP equivalent to a large XP lamp. If you’re really lucky, you could grab yourself a Prized Pendant of Skill that will triple the rate you will earn XP when worn, for as much bonus XP as you’d get in a huge XP lamp. The amount of bonus XP each pendant contains is dependent on the level of your relevant skill when you claimed them.

Once these pendants are exhausted, they will degrade and can be kept as a nice cosmetic keepsake. The pendants will be available from tomorrow (Friday 27 July), only via the Squeal of Fortune. As Yelps is feeling particularly generous, anyone who spins this weekend will have a greater chance of bagging one! From Friday 27th to Monday 30th inclusive (GMT) Pendants of Skill are in Common slots and Prized Pendants of Skill in Uncommon slots. After this weekend Pendants of Skill move to Uncommon and Prized Pendants of Skill move to Rare slots, so get spinning this weekend! Don’t forget that members get two daily spins instead of one, so subscribing is a sound way to double your chances to win per day.

It’s been over 10 years since RuneScape first opened its doors, and during that time, over 200 million players have passed through them. This is an immense milestone and to celebrate in true RuneScape style we have a suitably awesome event in game for you. Party demons have appeared in theBarbarianVillage, Varrock Sewers and the Bandit Camp, but they’ve been partying for so long that they just can’t stop. Hey Presto the mage, who’s waiting for you near the demons, knows just how to put them out of their misery though, and it’s up to you and your friends to take down the demon’s 200 million hit points with the Boogie bow.

RuneScape Touts Over 200 Million Accounts

RuneScape, has announced that their 11 year old games has over 200 million registered accounts. To give context to that, the press release states that “if RuneScape were a country it would be the 5th largest population in the world.”Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard says that the team has “witnessed a really strong resurgence in the game’s popularity over the past two years and are seeing strong player growth year on year.” To celebrate the account milestone and the game’s continuing success, Jagex have created what the press release calls “a suitably epic in-game celebration.” Jagex has also created a website to celebrate 200 million, with community testimonals, infographics and more.

To be fair, there was a time when this was one of the best MMO’s on the market, and IGN used a picture from that era… lol. But really, the game used to have 1.1 million people on at the same time, but it’s dead now. It has been dead since they came out with skill capes and took away PKing at virtually the same time back in 2007. Skill capes… blech, such a terrible idea. Welcome to no funscape. The Guild for only the quest champions of RuneScape lay in the suburbs of Varrock city just south-west of the main city [map]. To enter this most prestigious guild in the Free worlds, you would need at least 33 Quest Points (roughly completed nearly all free players quests). The Guild Master will greet you as soon as you enter the Guild. He is also the NPC you would want to talk to start the Dragon Slayer quest.

On the first floor there is nothing much apart from a small chicken coup outside. The chickens drop bones, feathers, and raw chicken, which can all be used. The bones can be buried for Prayer experience, the Raw chicken cooked at the range for Cooking experience which is also right there on the first floor, and the Feathers for Fishing, Fletching if you are a member, or they can be sold. This is a good place for low level cooks to get some levels up because there is a range in the next room. This is also the quest start point for one of the hardest non members quests, Dragon Slayer. To start the Dragon Slayer quest, talk to the Guild Master.

Removed certain aspects of Runescape to stamp out

Cambridge based MMO specialist Jagex has launched a targeted microtransaction system within a small section of the Runescape universe.Runescape customers are now able to purchase new attempts to play a popular minigame called Squeal of Fortune; a game of chance that offers various in-game prizes. The company told its community: “Although earning and winning spins are great new ways to spend more time [playing Squeal of Fortune], that’s not enough for the impatient among us!”It does not appear that the microtransaction system appears anywhere else within the Runescape power leveling, though the company has now established a framework to sell virtual items. The new feature has immediately sparked complaints from vocal Runescape players, of which many claim to have been “betrayed” by the new policy.

In 2007, Jagex removed certain aspects of Runescape to stamp out ‘grey market’ trading of virtual goods. The game is monetised though advertising and an optional subscription to premium features. The subscription options available will cost users anything between £3 and £10 per month.Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard previously branded microtransactions “a stealth tax”, though he may have been referring to how other games, unlike Runescape, implement virtual sales by prohibiting player progression until such goods are purchased.Rob Smith, an executive at Jagex, last week said that a gentle introduction of virtual item sales over time “could possibly be introduced, providing our audience is happy with it”.

Some player said “I know that Runescape isn’t the most respected and admired game in the world, but it has always been a nice way to kill some time for me…But when you play a game for a while, it really sucks to see that all the progress you have made the last few years now suddenly could be made in less than a week, if you just have the money for it. The rule against real world trading has been one of the oldest and most respected ones in this game, and now, out of nowhere, they now they not only allow it, but do it themselves during Runescape powerleveling. And the “squeal of fortune” affects every part of the game.. it has almost no limitations. The rewards are huge cash prizes, some of the most expencive gear and lots of experience points which players might have to spend years to achieve.
